Bridal hairstyle tips for the wedding morning

When it comes to your hair, proper preparation can make all the difference in achieving a beautiful bridal look and ensuring things run smoothly on your wedding morning. In this blog post, I'll guide you through five essential tips to ensure your hair is ready for your hairstylist on your special day.

Start with Clean Hair

One of the most crucial steps in prepping for your stylist is starting with clean hair. Clean hair is essential because it allows your stylist to work with a fresh canvas, free from any excess oils or product build-up (a double wash may be necessary if you use a lot of hair products regularly). Ideally wash your hair the day or night before the wedding day to strike the perfect balance between cleanliness and manageability (top tip - make sure you thoroughly rinse your hair of shampoo and conditioner). If you have straight hair I recommend only using conditioner at the ends to avoid the hair being too slippery!

Dry Hair is Essential

Make sure your hair is completely dry when your hairstylist begins (unless you are the Bride and have been advised otherwise at your trial of course!). Time is precious on a wedding morning and wet or damp hair takes longer to style. Air dry your hair or use a hairdryer to ensure it's thoroughly dry before your hair slot/appointment. By doing so, you'll allow your stylist to focus on crafting your desired hairstyle, rather than waiting for your hair to dry.

Avoid Using Straighteners and Hair Oils

Whilst essential to have clean and dry hair, avoid using straighteners and hair oils leading up to your wedding day. Straightened hair can be more challenging to tong and the curl is highly likely to drop out. Excess oil can weigh down your locks and hinder the styling process. Instead, opt for a gentle shampoo and conditioner, free from heavy oils and silicones, to keep your hair light and manageable.

Have a Reference Picture Ready

Communication is key when it comes to achieving your desired wedding hairstyle. To ensure your stylist understands your vision, have a reference picture of the style you love ready to show them. This visual aid will help eliminate misunderstandings and ensure you are on the same page (top tip - pick images of your stylist’s work). Also, think about how you would like your hair to look at the front and sides, not just at the back! This will allow your stylist to tailor the look to suit you perfectly, as well as ensuring you feel comfortable and happy with the end result!

Product Recommendations for Different Hair Types

Different hair types require specific products to achieve the best results. Often during the styling process we use heat from tongs, hair dryers and straighteners so protecting your hair from heat is really important. Firstly using a heat protector.

For fine hair, consider using a mousse. I love the Moroccan Oil Mousse to add volume and hold. Kevin Murphy Beach Resort Spray is also an excellent choice for adding a touch of beachy texture, perfect for an effortless bridal look.

For curly hair, finding the right products can take a bit of trial and error. I love using a mix of Aveda, Boucleme and Living Proof products to enhance natural curls. I would recommend starting with a curl cream and then working out whether your hair prefers a mousse or gel… or both to get the right level of curl definition. Using a serum, oil or cream is the perfect way to finish your hair once it’s been styled. Experiment with these products well in advance to determine which work best for your specific curl type. Well-defined and well-moisturised curls will look stunning on a wedding day.

Prepping your hair for your hairstylist on your wedding day is a crucial step in achieving your dream hairstyle and ensuring the wedding morning runs to time. Trust your stylist, communicate your vision and let the magic happen!
