Your wedding day is one of the most magical and memorable moments in your life, and you want everything to be special from your hair and makeup, to the way you spend your wedding morning, your walk down the aisle through to your last dance! In this blog post, I’ll guide you through a few tips on how to choose the right hair and makeup artist for you, to ensure that you look and feel incredible on your wedding day.

Style Matters: Find your Perfect Match

Your wedding day is a reflection of your personal style and taste. Pay close attention an artist’s previous clients and their wedding looks. Do you see yourself represented in their portfolio? Do you love the styles they've created in the past and do they align with your vision and the look you hope to achieve on your wedding day? If you find yourself admiring their work and envisioning yourself, it's a good sign that the artist's style resonates with you. I specialise in creating radiant styles that not only look natural but also feel natural on your skin. For me, ensuring you feel comfortable is just as important as the ‘look’. I believe that makeup should enhance your features, not hide them with each look being authentic and tailored to you.

Realistic Expectations

In the age of filters and photo editing apps, it's crucial to ensure you can see real and unfiltered images of an artist’s work. Ask your potential hair and makeup artist for authentic and unaltered photos of their previous clients. These photos should showcase a variety of lighting conditions and angles. This ensures you have a realistic expectation of what is achievable. Though professional photographic images are beautiful they are often retouched or cleverly lit which may not show a true representation of the makeup or hair styling. My portfolio showcases real photos of beautiful faces and hairstyles I have created, without any misleading filters. You can see more of my recent work on my Instagram and Pinterest pages.

Research

In your quest for the ideal wedding hair and makeup artist, delve into their background by exploring their "about me" page to provide insight into their journey and approach to their craft. Understanding their experience, skills and training is crucial because it ensures that you're in safe hands. During your research consider whether your values align with the artist's. Do they prioritise using cruelty-free and eco-friendly products if that's important to you? Understanding the artist's ethos can help you build trust and ensure you are on the same page. My work is very skin focused. I believe skin is just as important as the makeup applied on top. If you need help with your skincare routine I can offer advice as part of my Hair & Makeup Package. I love to use products that are kind to your skin as well as minimising their impact on the environment. It’s also important that you carefully review any documents offered by the artist to ensure that you are fully aware of what is included in the services they supply. When I provide a quote I include a contract with my terms of service. Transparency is essential in making sure there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Personal Connection

On your wedding day you should aim to be surrounded by people who make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Consider whether the artist's personality matches your needs for the wedding morning. I like to ensure the whole wedding process runs smoothly so I place strong emphasis on organisation. I have created a ‘Bride Guide’ to assist my brides with a holistic approach. It contains lots of handy tips to help my brides along the way and I prepare mood boards and wedding morning timetables to ensure it’s a stress free experience. On the day itself my aim is to create a calm atmosphere where you can have fun and enjoy the morning just as much as the rest of the day. Before accepting your quote I like to arrange a call to ensure that we connect, giving you the opportunity to make sure I am the right person to support you on such a significant and special morning.

Budget Considerations: Quality vs. Cost

Just as wedding budgets can vary, the cost of hair and makeup artist services vary too. It's important to find an artist whose pricing aligns with your financial plan. While price is a significant factor, remember that it often reflects the artist's experience, training, materials and the quality of service they are offering. Also look at their location in relation to your venue, as this can increase the cost if they need to travel outside of their usual work area. If you're in love with an artist's work but their price point is higher than your budget, consider making adjustments to your requirements. You may opt for fewer members of your bridal party to have their hair and/or makeup done in order to make it mote affordable, whilst retaining an exceptional service.

Choosing the right hair and makeup artist for your wedding day is an important decision, but it should also be fun and exciting with an opportunity to feel inspired and creative! If you think I could be the right fit and you would like me to create a bespoke quote, please fill out an enquiry form here. I can’t wait to hear from you and learn more about your special day soon!
