Your skin is the blank canvas for any makeup look. The more you take care of it in the run-up to your wedding, the better makeup will sit and last, making you feel good from the inside out and giving you confidence. Here’s a guide for skincare on the run-up, night before and the morning of your celebrations, plus a few key tips and advice for a radiant bridal glow.

Bridal skincare on the run-up to your wedding

For wedding skincare to be as effective as possible you need to show your skin some consistent love a good few months before the day. This includes nailing a solid routine and addressing any skin concerns you may have through nutrition and lifestyle changes. You might also want to invest in targeted facial treatments to keep your skin in tip-top condition.

Night before the wedding

1 Cleansing

As with any skincare routine, cleansing is vital. Use an oil or balm product for your first cleanse to break down any makeup or dirt, then go in with a more targeted cleanser for a deeper cleanse to remove excess oil and dead skin. I love the Nini Organics Detox Foam Cleanser as it is deeply effective yet doesn’t strip the skin. Follow up with a hydrating mist to add back some moisture.

2 Boost

If you have an at-home LED light mask this is the perfect place to slot it in! They are an amazing addition to a skin routine for the red carpet glow. You’ll find it plumps and hydrates while reducing inflammation and redness. I use the Boost LED face mask from the Light Salon.

3 Brighten and Hydrate

This is the key to getting that effortless glow. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can help brighten your skin while also evening its texture and tone. Hydrating the skin will ensure it’s plump, glowing and ready for makeup application. Apply a Vitamin C serum, followed by a hydrating treatment mask. I love using the  Pai Vitamin C Concentrate as it can be added to serums or moisturisers as an extra boost and my go-to hydrating mask is the Olixa Centella Asiatica as you can leave it on as an overnight treatment. It helps to soothe and calm the skin leaving it smooth and nourished!

4 Facial massage

A short facial massage is a great way to aid lymphatic drainage, so you can wake up on the morning of your wedding looking fresh, de-puffed and sculpted. Use a gua sha tool or your own hands with oil to gently massage the face and neck. Depending on your routine, you can either fit this in after you cleanse or at the end of your ritual when applying a finishing treatment oil.

Morning of the wedding

1 Cleansing

Make sure to use a gentle cleanser that won’t irritate or strip the skin. I love the Olixa Gummy Cleanser which is naturally brightening and leaves the skin feeling clean but not stripped. You could follow this with a gentle exfoliator such as REN Ready Steady Glow to add a little more radiance to the skin.

2 Hydrating mist and serum

Hydrated skin is key to a glowing bridal morning routine! Keeping your skin misted with a rose water spray will allow serums to sink in and perform better. Nini Organics Crimson Beauty is my go-to hyaluronic serum for a hydration boost. (I also always carry the Olixa Centella mask in my makeup kit in case my brides need any emergency hydration and some cryo sticks to help de-puff and drain any tired eyes!)

3 Moisturiser

Finally, a moisturiser helps create the perfect smooth canvas to apply makeup to your skin. My current favourite is the Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Cream it’s beautifully hydrating without feeling greasy.

Tips for your bridal skincare routine

  • Don't start using new products the night before your wedding, you never know how your skin will react! Instead, introduce them gradually in the run-up.

  • Trial any sheet masks or eye patches before using them on your wedding day or wedding eve.

  • Don’t use too many products with active ingredients at once. This can weaken your skin barrier and cause further skin concerns and irritation.

  • Start your skin routine or facial treatments 6 months to a year before your wedding for the best results.

  • Please note the product recommendations above are products I love to use on myself, within my kit or on clients. If you already have skincare you know and love, don’t feel the need to change up your routine. If you have sensitive or reactive skin, try seeking alternative products with a brand your skin already reacts well to.
