Ultrasonic cleansing is a great way of non-invasively deep cleansing the skin for a brighter, glowing and more even complexion. In this blog post, I cover everything you need to know when it comes to ultrasonic facials, including what to expect during a treatment and some common FAQs.

What is ultrasonic?

Ultrasonic therapy uses sound waves that work to gently and non-invasively to deeply cleanse, exfoliate and refresh the skin. This electrical treatment sends vibrations that helps to loosen and lift out sebum, blackheads and dead skin cells for a facial refresh.

The benefits of ultrasonic

Ultrasonic cleansing is particularly beneficial for those with oily or congested skin. This therapy works to draw out acne-forming bacteria to prevent black and white heads from forming. It also helps to draw out excess sebum and oil, reducing the appearance of large pores. If you love a facial that involves extractions this is a great alternative as it’s less invasive and pain free.

The gentle exfoliation means that skin texture and tone is evened, leaving clearer and brighter skin. Ultrasonic vibrations can also be used to help infuse products like serums deeper into the skin for boosted effectiveness.

What to expect from the treatment

I use this tool within the Clean and Calm facial. It is sandwiched between high frequency and LED light therapy. Firstly a mist is sprayed over the face in preparation for the ultrasonic tool, I then glide the metal spatula lightly over the face. The treatment itself doesn’t feel painful but you are likely to feel the gadget vibrating and hear a buzzing sound as the machine is gently moved over your face. As a bonus, this movement also really helps with lymphatic drainage and flushing the skin of toxins! In total the treatment will take around 20 minutes and requires no downtime to see results.

Ultrasonic FAQs

Is ultrasonic treatment suitable for me?

Ultrasonic is a gentle treatment that suits most skins, however, there are some contraindications. For example, if you have heart conditions or are currently pregnant. While ultrasonic is excellent in helping congested skin, I would not recommend this treatment to those who experience severe and inflamed acne, rosacea or eczema as it could cause further irritation. For a full list of contraindications for my facials, please check out my FAQ page.

Will I need follow-up ultrasonic treatments?

While you will be able to see immediate results from your first ultrasonic facial with me, I always recommended follow-up treatments to feel consistent benefits and keep your skin in tip-top condition.

Is ultrasonic safe?

Yes, ultrasonic therapy is considered a safe and non-invasive way to cleanse and rejuvenate the skin.

Are there any side effects to ultrasonic treatments?

Though side effects are rare, you may experience some redness and tenderness after the session, but this will fade quickly. It is also recommended that you wear a SPF as your skin will be more sun sensitive after this treatment.
